So many types of flooring, so little time. The number of flooring types seems to be increasing on a weekly basis so it’s little wonder that most people are confused. At Floors of Distinction, we’re proud to be considered among the leaders for timber flooring in Perth but there’s more to us than that.
In recent years we’ve noticed an increase in the number of requests for Bamboo flooring in Perth and we thought it would be worthwhile examining why this is. Bamboo flooring is undoubtably similar in many ways to timber flooring.
It has all the appeal, variety and warmth of timber but is relatively inexpensive – which is an obvious drawcard.
What is Bamboo Flooring?
Bamboo in itself is a type of grass. It’s made by slicing poles of bamboo into strips that are then cut to length and width. To remove the sugars the strips are then boiled in either lime or acid.
Durable
Bamboo flooring with typically last as long as traditional timber flooring. The strongest type of bamboo is harvested at between 5 and 6 years old and is un-carbonised, which, according to Lumber Liquidators is 10% harder than American Red Oak.
Eco Friendly
Bamboo grows and spreads at a relatively rapid rate — in some cases it’s been known to grow up to 4 feet per day. All this without needing fertilisers and pesticides or much water.
It releases approximately 30% more oxygen than similar sized trees and grows to full size within 7 years. From an environmental perspective Bamboo is king.
Cleaning & Maintenance
We recommend you observe the same rules with bamboo flooring as you do with any other flooring type. Common sense should prevail. Mop up any spills as soon as you see them, no commercial cleaning products, nothing abrasive that could scratch the floor. Standard stuff. A brush, damp mop and vacuum will be your best friends.
Variety
Even more options. Just what you need! Bamboo floors come in a wide variety. Solid bamboo flooring, engineered bamboo, laminate bamboo, horizontal, vertical, strand woven, carbonised – the list goes on. The one consistent feature is that whatever form it comes in, Bamboo looks stylish. It’s why Perth homeowners are asking for it more than ever.
Health Benefits
As with Timber Flooring, there are some significant health benefits from having Bamboo Flooring in your Perth home. Firstly, insects don’t like bamboo. Winner! It’s anti-static (no shocks!), non slip (no slips!), and hypo-allergenic (no sneezes!).
All in all we believe bamboo flooring to be a worthy alternative to timber flooring.
